Championship regulation

WORLD FORGING CHAMPIONSHIP REGULATION

Art.1

The Championship is valid for both exhibiting and non-exhibiting blacksmiths.  The participation cost has been established as € 20.00 per person in the “single male” and “single female” categories and in € 15.00 per person for the “team” categories which must be paid upon enrolment at the Organising Secretariat in piazza Mazzini.

 Art.2

The Championship will be held in piazza Mazzini – Stia and will begin on Thursday 31st August at 6pm and will finish on Saturday 2nd September 2017 at midnight.  The finishing time may be extended at the discretion of the Committee.

 Art.3

The World Forging Championship foresees the following categories:

  • single male      category
  • single female      category
  • male/female/mixed      team category;

Each team must be made up of a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6 people of either sex from the same country.  Each category must have at least 10 enrolments.

 Art.4

The time allowed for the realization of the work is 3 hours, at the end of which the competitor must leave the forge for the next participant.

 Art.5

Each participant and each team will be able to choose pieces of iron from the various types and dimensions made available by the Organising Committee.

 Art.6

Each individual participant will have a coal forge, an anvil and any indispensable tools at their disposal. The help of 1 assistant is permitted. Each team made up of 2 or 3 participants will have a coal forge, an anvil and any indispensable tools at their disposal. Each team made up of 4, 5  or 6 participants will have 2 coal forges, an anvils and any indispensable tools at their disposal.

 Personal tools may be used, except for welding machines or any other type of machinery.

The Championship theme will be announced about 1 month before the exhibition begins on the following website:  www.biennaleartefabbrile.it

 Art.8

The contest will be carried out in the presence of at least one member of the Organising Committee or a delegated person.

Art.9

The works produced will be stamped and evaluated by a suitable jury.  The works realized during the World Championship are owned by the Autonomous Association of Wrought Iron and may be sold to help finance the exhibition.

 Art.10

The jury will also assess the correct use of the coal forge (the use of water to avoid overheating, the lowering of the ventilation when the iron is not being heated, the cleaning of the waste) which is a fundamental part of the blacksmith’s work.

Another fundamental aspect of the blacksmith’s work is the drawing of what will be done, for this reason the jury will take into consideration the presentation of the opera’s drawing (with author, year and title) also done previously, which may be shown during the three hours of the forging competition and handed in together with the opera.

 Art.11

The jury will consist of between five and seven international experts.  There will also be a representative of the Organising Committee, a representative of the town hall of Stia and a Notary, who will not vote.

 Art.12

The winners will receive a trophy and will bear the unique and official title of WORLD FORGING CHAMPION 2017 (single male, single female and team) until the next World Championship edition which will be held in Stia in 2019.  A trophy will also be given to the second and third place in each category.

 Art.13

The winning names will be officially communicated at 5:30pm on 3rd September 2017.

 Art.14

The jury and the Organising Committee reserve the right to introduce any variations to the current regulation, by informing the participants straight away.  The jury’s verdict is without appeal.
